deb is the wife of your humble narrator.
she's the captain of the tandem bicycle we are riding 500 miles across Iowa. i talked
her into riding the tandem instead of her Kestrel, and i hope she doesn't regret it. |

don is one of my college chums from Iowa.
he has the dubious credential of instigating this adventure when he decided to go on
RAGBRAI 27, last year. after all the stories from last year, we're not certain why
he's going, but maybe he had more fun than he let on. |
 |
|
petey, a native Californian, had never heard
of RAGBRAI until last year, when he rode a bike across Iowa that weighed about twice
what don's bike weighed. now he knows better, and rides this year's version of
the Novara Viaggio. |
 |
|
i rode on RAGBRAI 14 in 1986. however,
because my knees gave out by the third morning, i rode only about 125 miles. one of
the things i've learned in the last 14 years is to downshift whenever i
bicycle up a hill. i hope to ride all 489 miles of RAGBRAI 28. |

josie is my coworker, and an avid cyclist.
has saved my butt more than once when my bike had a flat. she bicycles to work often.
i think she's possibly in better shape than most anyone but michael, below. |
 |
|
michael is josie's guy. he's a coordinator
of a cycling club in the SF bay. he rides a lot of miles, and rides circular routes
rather than repeat the trip out. he's never been on RAGBRAI, so a one way trip across Iowa
should be perfect. |
 |
|
mark is another of my ISU college chums. he's been
on lots of RAGBRAIs. he was on RAGBRAI (26?) when the police came to the campgrounds to
tell him his wife had delivered their first child. |
 |
|
nancy is married to mark, is also from ISU, and
has also ridden on RAGBRAI many times. i understand mark had to lock her in the hospital
to keep their first kid from being delivered by RAGBRAI medics. |
 |
|
papa pohn is nancy's dad, coordinator of
team tropical fish. papa john's first RAGBRAIs was two decades ago. the ride
wouldn't be as easy without him; he arranged to stay in private homes so we
won't have to share the campgounds with the other 12,000 RAGBRAI riders. |
 |
|
susie is nancy's sister, also a RAGBRAI alum.
she's from Idaho, but that's all i know so far, except she's fun and energetic. |
