Deb and i chose today to drive the Durango. the people loaded their gear in the
trailer and i was surprised to have no remorse. they say the route today has
the most elevation gain in RAGBRAI's 28 year history.

host home with us. she appeared not to notice our departure at all. |

we slept in until 9 AM and drove away quickly. although we were caught by
construction, we still caught up with the team before they left the lunch town.

at the Adair Amoco station we saw an unfortunate team leader whose RV had broken down. he
had to get a ride to Des Moines to pick up the nearest U Haul truck to carry his team's
gear the rest of the week.

tube boy was rolling down the road. i don't know how many miles he covered this way,
but there was a definite trend among the children to have more energy than the adults
that accompanied them.

josie and michael reach the finish line. they rode the entire distance, seven miles
after this photo was taken to the farmhouse where we are staying. others loaded their
bikes in the trailer and rode the Durango the last way from town.
