“The Twelve” is in reference to the twelve Knightshade Valkyries. These halfling Valkyries are very similar to the Norse Valkyries and the Finnish Air Maidens, with the obvious size difference of the Halfling. The Knightshade Valkyries ride pegasi of maximum hit points, although most of the pegasi are appropriately pony-sized.

The main job of The Tewelve is to collect the souls of dead Kimdissi races and guide them to the afterlife. In this capacity, they take directions from the Worlorn Deathgod. However, The Twelve Knightshade Valkyrie are occasionally sent by Besgar or Samantha Knightshade, acting much like the Air Maidens sent by Ukko.

While their missions are identical, each of The Twelve possesses a True Name and individual personality. Each Valkyrie's style of clothing is unique, personalized by the wearer for local conditions. Only High Priests and followers of the Knightshades will know the names of all twelve.

The Twelve usually are seen alone when detected outside of Besgar’s Featherfall Keep. If more than twelve kimdissi are slain in one event, Besgar Knightshade directs his attention to the cause.

The Symbol for Besgar Knightshade is a mithril dirk. Each of The Twelve carry a mithril Longtooth, appealing to the archetype of Dagger +2, “Longtooth” in Module S4 or The Unearthed Arcana. There are a few differences from the standard Longtooth:

  • First, the blade is not “broad-bladed” but narrow like a dirk.
  • Second, the Knightshade version is tuned specifically to Halflings, Hobbits, and Kimdissi, and therfore does not lengthen when wielded by gnomes, or darklings.
  • Third, the weapons of the Knightshade Twelve are mithril Standard weapons of the Longtooth archetype are not often mithril.

If local conditions permit, a Knightshade Valkyrie may have wings magically sprout from her back (with clothing magically adjusted to allow the wings) so the appearence is like that of the Voler.
